Days of Working: This position will be based at The University of Sussex, Brighton, working a student-facing, front of house role and each vacancy is for 8 hours each. 2 x 8 hour shifts per week available - either Mon and Tues, 15.00-19.00, or Thurs and Fri 15.00-19.00.
Porters at Sussex Estates and Facilities serve as the first point of contact for students and visitors, providing assistance, minor maintenance, cleaning, and safety support. They represent the University with professionalism, ensuring a welcoming environment and upholding high standards of conduct and service.
As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Clean academic buildings to a high standard including sweeping, vacuuming, polishing, and dusting of all designated areas.
- Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and correctly such as both manual and powered cleaning tools (e.g., floor buffers, carpet machines).
- Adhere to health and safety regulations by following COSHH guidelines and site-specific safety procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service by maintain a professional and helpful attitude toward students, staff, and visitors.
- Report building defects and incidents and notify the supervisor of any maintenance issues, safety concerns, or welfare matters.
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Must have Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undertake a DBS.
- Previous cleaning experience.
- Basic knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety.
- Physically able to move loads up to 15kg.
- Committed to delivering high standards of customer service.
- Flexible to work additional hours when required.
