Role Purpose
OCS are looking for a hands-on Mobile Technician role that bridges operational cleaning support with basic mechanical troubleshooting and fixes for machinery used across our food production and distribution contracts. You’ll help keep our equipment safe, clean, and running by completing hygiene tasks, first-line fault finding, minor repairs, and supporting planned maintenance, all while maintaining high standards of food safety and site compliance.
This is not an industrial cleaning role and not a manufacturing role - it’s an on-the-ground, mobile operational support role focused on equipment uptime, hygiene, and quick-turn resolution.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform targeted cleaning of production and distribution equipment in line with SOPs, including hygiene resets and documentation.
• Use and store chemicals safely under COSHH requirements and maintain correct PPE use.
• Support deep‑clean activities during shutdowns and peak periods.
• Diagnose and complete minor mechanical fixes such as belt adjustments, sensor cleaning, and clearing jams.
• Assist with simple PPM tasks including lubrication, inspections, and filter changes.
• Escalate issues outside scope and support engineers or contractors during call‑outs.
• Record all work accurately in maintenance logs or CMMS systems.
• Work within food‑site rules including GMP, allergen control, tool control, and hygiene zoning.
• Follow LOTO, permit‑to‑work processes, and complete dynamic risk assessments and near‑miss reporting.
• Maintain van stock of consumables, parts, and cleaning materials.
• Build effective working relationships with production, engineering, hygiene, and QA teams.
• Use mechanical skills confidently with hand tools and basic component replacement.
• Travel between sites with flexibility for shifts and varied environments; full UK licence required.
• Work safely with chemicals, in chilled or ambient warehouse settings, and undertake physical tasks up to 20kg.
• Advantageous experience includes basic electrical checks, LOTO awareness, CMMS use, Food Safety Level 2, and FLT/MEWP or PAT certification.
Tools, Equipment & PPE Provided
• Company van
• Basic tool kit and consumables.
• Uniform and task-appropriate PPE.
• Induction covering food site rules, GMP, allergen awareness, COSHH, manual handling, and LOTO awareness.
• Task training for site-specific equipment, SOPs, and documentation standards.
• Shadowing period with experienced technicians/engineers/hygiene leads.
