About The Role:

About the role:

The Calibrator 1’s primary role is to maintain, repair, calibrate and set all Press ancillary equipment across all press functions. This will involve tasks that fall under planned, reactive (work orders) and project work including roller swap outs and packaging of rollers for transportation. The Calibrator 1 is also expected to train new members if and when they arrive. To ensure all quality and safety standards are adhered to. Working flexibly to support reasonable requests across departments to meet the needs of the business will also be required.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that departmental quality standards are achieved

  • Support NPHL staff with various project work

  • Carry out and complete planned maintenance requests

  • Ensure all reports of defective equipment are acted upon and dealt with in a timely manner

  • Ensure minimum downtime, maximum efficiency and performance in all aspects of production

  • Be proactive in producing and developing methods of operation that improve productivity and efficiency

  • To provide effective supervision of the calibration team

  • Encourage and develop teamwork with all team members and associated staff. Identify strengths and weakness in all personnel to ensure cohesion of all team working towards a common goal.

  • Facilitate the development of self and of the team through Company or Supplier sponsored training schemes, self-improvement programmes or through the implementation of training initiatives within the team.

  • Orchestrate and oversee a continually improving culture of cleaning/maintenance

  • Ensure that all standards meet company, legal and ethical requirements  

  • Identify the training needs and development of self, team members and associated staff. Fulfilling all internal and external training courses including essential H&S courses  

  • Support in the completion of any reactive maintenance tasks (night request’s / work orders)

  • Complete full print unit inspection and clean

  • Chemical hot flushing of press & fount station maintenance

  • Peroxide flushing of Press fount system

  • Clean ink fountain and ink blade

  • Remove replace and set ink and damp rollers

  • Carry out Turbo flap test and roller washes from PECOM desk

  • Remove, replace and clean PPL bar

  • Remove, clean, maintain and repair Roto clean and Turbo units

  • Inspect blankets for damage

  • Control the usage of all consumable items and minimise waste

  • Understand, practice and implement relevant Health, Safety and Environmental requirements i.e. Safety Wear, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and Manual Handling guidelines to company and legal standards

  • Any Health and Safety concerns are reported to the appropriate point of escalation and/or NPHL Helpdesk

  • Follow the safe systems of working as dictated in your training information guides and risk assessments

  • Keeping the immediate working area safe and clear of any impediments, such as trip hazards, spills, etc.  

  • Keep area and machines clean and tidy and dispose of waste in the correct manner

  • Housekeeping standards are maintained in line with the area visual standards

  • Undertake and oversee training of new staff to meet production requirements, when and as required

  • To meet all KPI (Key Performance Indicators) requisites through all production shifts

  • Accurately and legibly complete all relevant documentation associated with all relevant tasks

  • All other reasonable requests across departments to meet the needs of the business.

Skills required:

  • Flexibility – Ability to move between areas (training permitting) to meet the needs of the business. 
  • Excellent team working skills and ability to integrate with both OCS employees and NPHL Employees at all times.  
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills. 
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to work on own initiative. 
  • Good organisational skills and ability to balance workload in areas of priority 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised. 
  • Mechanical appreciation of equipment and moving parts. 
  • Ability to work safely. 
  • Ability to share knowledge to others 
  • Problem solving skills and confident decision making 
  • Significant experience in the print industry with good knowledge of NPHL’s equipment
