Shift Pattern: 5 days out of 7 (including weekends on a rota)
The Plumber will play a critical role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of Warwick Castle and the Knight’s Village hotel. This position is responsible for completing a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule, responding to reactive plumbing issues, and ensuring all water systems remain compliant with statutory and Merlin‑wide standards.
This is a hands‑on role supporting a historic building and live hospitality environment, ensuring guests have a safe, reliable, and enjoyable experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs)
- Carry out scheduled PPMs on all plumbing systems, including hot and cold water distribution, drainage, and sanitary appliances.
- Complete regular checks aligned with legionella and water hygiene requirements.
- Inspect and maintain toilets, sinks, showers, water heaters, pipes, and valves across the estate.
- Maintain accurate and timely records within the CAFM system (e.g., job sheets, asset notes, statutory records).
- Ensure all maintenance is completed in line with both regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Reactive Maintenance
- Respond promptly to plumbing faults, leaks, blockages, heating/water issues, and urgent repairs across the Castle and hotel.
- Diagnose issues quickly and implement safe, temporary or permanent solutions.
- Support the wider engineering team during emergency situations (floods, major leaks, system failures).
- Minimise downtime to guest operations by ensuring effective first‑time fixes wherever possible.
Compliance & Safety
- Carry out work in accordance with water hygiene regulations, ACOP L8, and site safety protocols.
- Ensure safe isolation procedures are always followed.
- Report defects, risks, and improvement suggestions to the Engineering Manager.
- Promote safe working practices and support health and safety briefings.
Operational & Team Support
- Work collaboratively with electricians, general maintenance staff, external contractors, and site leadership.
- Provide technical support for hotel and attraction operations during busy periods.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the maintenance regime.
- Support occasional project work, small installations, refurbishments, and upgrades.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent recognised qualification).
- Proven experience in a commercial, hospitality, heritage, or multi‑site environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of domestic hot and cold water systems.
- Experience completing both PPM and reactive works.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Full UK driving licence (if travel between estate areas is required).
Desirable
- Knowledge of water hygiene and legionella compliance.
- Experience working in heritage or historical buildings.
- Basic skills in general building maintenance.
- Familiarity with CAFM systems for job management.
