Working Pattern

Job Purpose

The Night Cleaning Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the night cleaning team at the Tesco Distribution Centre in Lichfield. This role combines effective team management with a hands-on approach, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and operational cleanliness across the site. The successful candidate will actively participate in cleaning tasks while supervising the team and  coordinating workloads.

 Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Manage, lead, and motivate a team of night cleaning operatives.
• Allocate tasks and monitor performance to ensure all cleaning duties are completed to the required standard.
• Conduct shift briefings and provide clear instructions for nightly operations.
• Support recruitment, training, and development of cleaning staff.
• Carry out performance monitoring, attendance management, and basic HR procedures where required.

Hands-On Cleaning Operations

• Actively participate in cleaning duties alongside the team, particularly during busy periods or when covering absences.
• Operate industrial cleaning equipment such as scrubber dryers, pressure washers, and floor cleaning machines.
• Ensure warehouse floors, welfare areas, offices, and operational zones are maintained to Tesco hygiene standards.
• Assist with deep cleans, spill responses, and urgent cleaning requirements within the distribution environment.

Standards & Compliance

• Ensure all cleaning activities comply with health and safety regulations, COSHH guidelines, and Tesco site procedures.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene suitable for a food distribution environment.
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks.
• Complete cleaning logs, compliance documentation, and incident reports.

Operational Coordination

• Plan and organise nightly cleaning schedules to minimise disruption to warehouse operations.
• Liaise with warehouse management and other departments to coordinate cleaning around operational needs.
• Monitor stock levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring materials are ordered and maintained appropriately.

Key Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in cleaning supervision or management, ideally within a warehouse, logistics, or industrial environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team while remaining operationally hands-on.
• Strong knowledge of health & safety procedures, COSHH, and hygiene standards.
• Experience operating or supervising the use of industrial cleaning equipment.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work night shifts and adapt to operational demands.
